Welcome to the January Countdown Thread.
It is that time of the month again! Let's see what you all like best from last month.
Please share one or two of your personal best photos with us. There are so many fabulous photo posted on BP. So many very inspiring works of time and talent. I like this thread because its purpose is for each of us to show case your individual photo that you believe is your best or that you feel is most representative of your inner self. So... let's see your personal best!
*If you are a regular here you know what to do.
**If you are new to this thread, take some time to read our helpful hints below and join in the fun.
*** If you found yourself here because you are lost.... Hmmm.., Don't worry, this is not the Hotel California, you can escape!
Some helpful hints for attaching photos into a BP Forum Thread, if you're unfamiliar with the process:
1) Sign into BP. IF YOU HAVEN'T entered the Contest for today, you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull an existing image (from your Member Center) into your reply here.
a. Jot down the PhotoID # of the photo you wish to share. To determine your PhotoID, go to the little Pancakes icon, then click “My Photos”, then “Manage/Enter.” The PhotoID is right below the number.
b. Go to the Countdown Contest thread. Click “Respond” at the bottom of the page.
c. Type in whatever you wish; e.g., “Here’s my Fav image for the month.”
d. Click the “Select” button below the text input box, and select “1.” Toggle on “Notify” box if you wish to be notified. Click “Submit.”
e. The Image Uploader appears. On the right-hand side, you’ll see an input box for the PhotoID (from step 1a). Type it in then click “submit your photo.” Then, return to the forum thread and you’ll see your photo.
2) IF YOU HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest for today, you can't use the Photo ID method *today*. Either wait until tomorrow to reply here first, or upload a copy of the image (from your PC) and attach to this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery.
3) If you're uploading a duplicate, I suggest titling it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on. This can also help nudge BP viewers to go find the original image in your gallery, if they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, first try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate... which may one day be deleted.

The most striking trio of costume-coorindated models I saw during Carnevale. Three sisters attending together, in stunning white costumes they made, each with a fantastic, different swan headdress. As we moved towards a grand old palazzo to photograph these three in a baroque ballroom, I caught this scene of them striding towards me, and couldn't help but be completely dazzled. 2/17 Finalist - People

After a 3-entry January, I managed a five-fold improvement for February, thanks to a photo workshop in Venice. I'll go with this one; these three costumed women are sisters, who made their own costumes, and who gave us 2 hours of their time in a palazzo. The three of them striding towards me here, is from the long walk to reach the palazzo from the water bus dock.

Errick, I think Jim set the system up so you can use the photo id# after entering the contest. This is a test and a favorite for February.

The same happened to me as to Nikki. However, I noticed that the image did not appear in "Recent Entries". I wonder!?

I entered my eagle last month. Yesterday I used the photo ID as I always do to put it in this thread as my favorite. This morning after I entered something for today, I checked my current entries. The eagle went in as a second entry for yesterday! So it's in the contest twice, once in the middle of February and now in March. I can't delete the March one because there's only one upload and I don't want to delete the upload.
Anyone else who uses the photo id to enter in this discussion have this happen to them?

I'm going to be traveling the next couple of days, so may not get back to this discussion for awhile.

My first favorite is my portrait of an Abe Lincoln actor that we met at a Civil War Reenactment several years ago. He has since passed away. I thought he really looked like the real man! Happy Birthday Abe.
My second choice would be my Sunset at the Farm image. I liked the way the sunset sky contrasts with the red building.

Nikki McDonald's Gallery 		  Thanks, Chris and Errick, for checking. This was the first time I'd tried putting the day's entry in FOLLOWED by my favorite in this thread. You used to HAVE to do the reverse, as Chris describes doing; but when Jim made all the last modifications to the contest, a lot of things about entering changed, so I decided to see whether I could do that. (I had forgotten to put my favorite in and had already entered the contest for the day.) I suspect that is the difference. Nothing I can do about it now, I was just curious.

Michigan is having a February thaw, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to set up this outdoor still-life. I used stonecrete from the driveway to build the miniature inuksuk at the edge of an ice-filled ditch in mid-melt. I took the shot at ground-level, pointing my camera into the sun. My purpose was to make the scene appear bigger than its actual size...as if the shot was taken along a rocky riverbank instead of a ditch bank. I'm not really sure if I was successful, so I'm anxious for some feedback. Does this shot make my inuksuk look BIG?!? ;o)

I used my 50mm portrait lens at f/2.8 for this capture.

A truly unique room even by Venetian standards! Some 130 sculptures from antiquity once graced the room, in the mid-1500's. Today only 1 piece has been returned, the hanging sculpture of the Abduction of Ganymede. Captured using 3 lens-shifted exposures from a 17mm t/s lens set on the floor.
