Thank you for all the responses (Good and Bad).I create my images so that the subjects interact with themselves and their environment. Not everyone appreciates the loosness of this photo, but the B&G will not only have their moment, but they have captured the personalities of their family and friends forever in this photo. For me that makes this photos ring truer than a static row of statue representations of people that attended.
Those who find the image 'uncomfortable' and unsightly probably feel more comfortable with a more traditional image. They are safe soothing photos.
If you look this photo has a lot going on it it. There is the obvious layers of the B&G and the second layer of the family.
1. If you look there is the great golden triangle of the B&G creating a sense of stability in the composition-- which is further reinforced by the centering of the couple.
2. The rest of the family fills the frame, creating something to look at throughout the entire image. While they are all casually interacting to the moment, they are all vertical creating a sense of support.
3. It may not be obvious, but every character has a leading line to the center of the image.
4. The "colorization" is just giving a slight boost to the already shallow depth of field. The family can identify who is who, but the focus is always on the couple.
5. Finally, you get the sense of candor to the image with give a feeling that this is a real vice a staged moment.
It is exactly the way I would have approached this image if I were to paint it.
For those who like it, thank you. For those who don't, I would hope you would at least appreciate it. You don't have to like art or music to appreciate it. #1671925

V,the only ones that are slightly colorized are the B&G. The background is not totally desaturated, and the dress that one bridesmaid is wearing probably pops out more with their colors to you. #1672782
