Thank you Dominick. I used available light from a nearby street light plus pre-sunrise light (background) plus a tiny flashlight as fill light.I adjusted the in-camera's color balance to 3200 Kelvin. That made the color balance between available light and street light to accentuate their color temperatures. I cleaned up the sand with photoshop clone stamp.
I had to get up at 3am.....(that's the bad part) Exposure was based on the Street light to the left, the fill light fell right into place by chance.. and I just waited for the sunrise light to come up into place. The Light was so dim I could not use my spot meter to check the clowds behind so I used the good ole brown eyes to predict light balance... and I captured about 5 frames on this day.
Thank for stopping-by

Hi Paul! The Colors came up from adjusting the in-cameras color balance to a temp in between both lights ambient and available light. Here in Hawaii the street lights are really really orange/yellowish. This time I used 100 iso for better tonality and less noise. The key adjusment here was the exposure for the tree. that made the colors pop-upMarvin #4591922

Marvin, I am not sure how you came up with idea for the photo but congrats! I love it when an idea hits and you are able to make it come to reality. You paid price by getting up early but it is really a special photo! #4941954Marvin A. Rivera October 19, 2007
Thank you so much everyone for your terrific support. I really appreciate every single one of you for taking the time to leave me some feedback.John P. I came up with the idea after trying to get a correct color balance for the Waikiki Street lights. The Light Temp is well below 2000 Kelvin. My D2x only goes to 2.2 Kelvin so best I could do was fix the white color balance with PhotoShop. After a while I began to wonder how I could take advantage of it... Mixing light colors by shifting the in-camera color balance and then Bam.. It all snapped into place one day... Daylight temp is about 5200 kelvin. I could make the background look so cold and lonely if I reduced the Temp setting and at the same time I could warm up the street lights color by increasing the camera's Temp setting above 2200 kelvin. I put the 2 and 2 together and went for an in between setting. Now I had to scout for a recognisable subject that would stay put for the 30 seconds or so that it would take to explose it (use small aperture for depth of field). Bingo I found this three next to the Ocean. The water is as flat as a lake on a calm night in this side of the Island. The first capture wasnt quiet balanced in between. On the Fifth One I got it just the way I wanted. That's it this is the fifht frame. Oh I use a 99 cents two battery flash light. I exposed for the Street light, Fill with the flashlight and waited for the firt rays of light to come up till they look pretty even (exposure wise). My D2x did the rest of the Magic.
I had dragged my Fiancee with me that morning and she was sleeping in the car just a few feet away when Capture this moment.
She asked me... Oh my, when did you do that? I replyed... It all happened while you were sleeping... (smiling).
