Gettysburg Sunset Reversed
Uploaded: June 13, 2007
Look closely -- something is not right with this image. The reflection of the trees in the "water" are reversed!

This is wonderful Don! #673118Don Johnson June 13, 2007
Thank you Heather. Did you catch that the reflection is not correct? #4393450Mike D. Perez June 13, 2007
That's pretty cool, Don! It's a beautiful image. I don't think I would have caught the reflections. #4393469Don Johnson June 13, 2007
Thanks Mike. Not sure people will actually "see" what they are "seeing" in this photograph unless they slow down and actually "look" at the image. #4393489Brinn MacDougall June 13, 2007
How bizzare, did you do this or is this the way it was..It's a beautiful capture either way, Don. #4393561Don Johnson June 13, 2007
Brinn, this is a "created" photo. I took a sunset photo and duplicated the top and put it on the bottom, although I reversed the tree "reflections." There is no way this could be produced naturally. I agree with you, it is kind of bizzare, although I bet most people, when they originally look at the image, don't see that it is not real. #4393713Autum Rhoades June 13, 2007
Awesome work on this Don! Love that you were able to reverse this. If one wasn't looking, they would probably not even notice. Great work!!! #4394012Don Johnson June 13, 2007
I appreciate your kind words Autum. This is a different type of image from those I normally produce. #4394025Cheryl E. Molennor June 13, 2007

Sneaky!! But cool! #4548427Don Johnson July 24, 2007
I bet most people never even noticed that this image could never happen in nature. #4548463Donna La Mattino Pagakis December 19, 2007

Thank you Chris and Vladan. I submitted this image once before and it was not even slected for an "Editors Choice." This time when I submitted it, it wins a second place. Go figure. On the first go around the judges might have missed the fact that the reflection was not natural. #5239839Chris Budny December 21, 2007
It is a fiendishly simple deception, but makes for a very convincing reflection shot. And of course, the silhouettes against that beautiful orange sky are terrific. Glad you chose to resubmit! #5239979Gary Lange December 21, 2007
Huge congrats on a most wonderful sunset, Don! #5240100Don Johnson December 21, 2007

Don, I love this image, and at first I did not even noticed, wow, how cool is that!Don Johnson January 03, 2008
Maria, thank you for your very kind comments. I learned PS by taking a course with a local photographer so I don't have a good direction to send you. I know there are tutorials on the subject. You might also try a local college. Also check with a local photo club for possibilities. In fact, I am a great believer in photo clubs -- if you are not a member -- then join one. It will be the best photographic experience you can do. #5285776Serena S. Hinkel January 10, 2008
Congratulations Don! I can see the "Reflection" competition at this month's GCC meeting is going to be tough for the Advanced group!! This is beautiful, and no, I didn't notice the switched reflection until I read your comment on the photo's page! You are a master. #5319401Don Johnson January 10, 2008
Thank you Serena. I have not even started to think about the reflection category for this month's GCC competition, but you are right. This image would fit. #5319805paola A. Jofre March 28, 2008
