On the last day of my trip, I started driving well before sunrise and planned to go to June Lake for the fall colors. Somehow I missed the exit to June Lake...I guess I was a bit distracted. The next exit was for Mono Lake. I took lots of Mono Lake pics on my last trip, so I wasn't planning on going back this time. But the sky that particular morning looked promising, so I said what the heck. I drove like crazy because right in front me was a spectacular sunrise in the making. I parked my car and ran as fast as I could, camera equipment in tow...there were other frantic photographers running ahead of me lugging their equipment -- cameras on extended tripods for quick setup. As I was running, I looked to my right and the sky had turned an astonishingly beautiful shade of red, and I still got a long way to go! Yikes! I ran as fast as I could, got to the tufas, and to my dismay, the place was CRAWLING with photographers! geeez... ..(continued in photo discussion)

Congrats Francis! It's great, but not as great as the story behind it!! Somehow, when I look at my images I regretfully know that no one appreciates them half as much as me because as the eye behind the camera I am the one with the first hand knowledge of the story behind the photo and most times it's the best!!! #2448000Francis Cailles February 21, 2006
Thanks everyone.Geez. I just realized my story behind the shot was cut short...here's the full text:

I ran as fast as I could, got to the tufas ( http://www.monolake.org/naturalhistory/tufa.htm ) and to my dismay, the place was CRAWLING with photographers! geeez... every good spot was taken! So I went to the first available spot -- not the best spot, but at that point I'll take anything-- and shot frantically, hoping no photographer will show up in the frame. There were actually a couple of photographers behind the tufa on the right side of my image...they were kind enough to hide behind the tufas while I took a couple of shots...I kept shooting until my battery died....
