I Like it!. I love the composition and the blue background too!
Just one little detail about the path work in Photoshop. I noticed a bit jagged on the borders, it seems you did it with the Magic Wand Tool, right?. With Pen Tool you can get a perfect smooth border.

Henri Cartier-Bresson once described photography as the "art of instantaneous selection". I cannot find in this photograph anything spontaneous or serendipitous.

Like most of the recent potd's its a posed construction. Technically well exposed and composed, but thats all. Just advertising art.

I always look forward to the POTD on my email, and am often impressed, but recently its been all posed "art"....with technical expertise, but no magic.

Am looking for more "WOW", " The magic moment that is amazing and right in 125th second. And..... you get it on film or card. That, to me is "Art"

That said: Jesus: the blend between the handle & background isn't quite perfect, but compression really does seem to accentuate it rather badly. JPG doesn't seem to like the sharp transition between solid colors.

Thanks also robert, for your considered opinion. Much better than a simple "This Stinks", and certainly provides some food for thought. I'd love to see examples of your work, for instruction and inspiration. Could you post a link to your gallery?

Speaking of "ART", that definition is certainly in the eye of the beholder. Is this “art”??? Well, I'm just glad that's not my call to make, and I have not vested interest in what each individual may decide. Personally, my attempt here was to capture the interplay of the various curves and circles and arcs in this everyday object, which I found on our kitchen stove. And while robert doesn’t find anything “serendipitous” here, I feel my discovery (or notice) of these interactions to be just that. And the image does seem to have captured some people’s eyes, and created some emotional responses, mostly positive (at least of those who felt moved to comment).

Granted, my humble rendering of a teapot doesn't begin to compare with the most influential piece of modern art ever:

Hi Larry (and Melissa)

Mi intention is not undervalue your work, really dont.
Sure most of people here have more experience than me on photography, but I can tell you one or two things about PHOTOSHOP. Believe me is not the COMPRESSION it is the SELECTION and the tool you choose to make it. I take the liberty to download your photo and redo the path (I used the PEN tool) in order to erase the jagged border. It Worked.
Larry, I'm going to email you the image so you can compare both.
Please dont take me wrong. It's just a little adviced for further ideas.

Jesus: I certainly did not take offense at your comments, or think you were trying to undervalue my work. Sorry if I was abrupt.

I did use magic wand on this, but touched up the edges manually. Comparing the image in my files, and the image displayed here DOES show a difference along the edges. But I'll be happy to discuss outside this forum, and see if I can improve my skills!

My apologies,
It was not my intention to create controversy. I do think the photograph is a fine example of small product photography.Well exposed, infocus and well lighted. I was not aware the POTD is not a place for opinions or critique (per Sharon D)
Apparently only lauditory opinions are expected. I shall, in the future, avoid posting any comments, except to exclaim "what a pretty shade of blue"
And to Phil S, my rehab was many years ago, and my recovery is going quite dandy.
