Scissors
Uploaded: November 22, 2005
A photo of my 10 year old son, Antal, executing what is called in horse-vaulting a "scissors" move - one of the 6 compulsory exercises all horse-vaulters need to be able to do well. These are all done while the horse is cantering in a circle. The background is blurred with Motion Blur in PS.

Many congratulations on POTD Endre, fantastic image #2290671Morgan Tatum January 15, 2006
Nice...however, I think you have taken the reality of an extraoridinary athletic acheivement and made it look a little to fake. It would have been nice if you eased up on the Photoshop some to really emphasize the manuver and not put so much attention to the background. #2290747William F. Clair January 15, 2006
What a surprise to see this in my email. Always have loved this shot. #2290764Kathleen R. Struckle January 15, 2006

Wow! Thanks so much to all of you. I'm overwhelmed. You're all so kind to write a comment. I really appreciate it. I opened my e-mail and couldn't imagine why I had so many discussion postings until I discovered that they had chosen this for POTD. I can't remember if I entered this in the BP contest or not. I must have, or they wouldn't have found it. Anyway, to those of you who haven't seen my BP gallery, please take a look. I have a few other horse vaulting photos over there including another one with the same kind of blurred background. I started using this technique out of necessity. At the horse-vaulting competitions the backgrounds are always awful - nothing but chain-link fences, tractors, and poles. So, to get rid of that stuff I blurred the background and discovered this neat effect. I have another good photo from the same competition that I need to do yet. This has inspired me to get to it. Anyhow, many, many thanks again to all of you for such kind comments. Antal thanks you, too, for commenting on his vaulting. He took 3rd place in his division in the National competition this year, held in Denver. Only a few tenths of a point separated him from first place and had he not slipped and ended one of his routines early, he might have been 1st. The other boys were all 13, though, so there's always next year.Nancy Donnell January 16, 2006
Awesome shot. Congratulations! #2294933jean ray January 16, 2006
