It took a while to train my eyes on the murky water. The large frog was near my feet, tadpoles were jumping all around...like porpoises, almost, except they never thrust their bodies out of the water. They just came to the surface and dove back under—repeatedly. That behavior continued. But there were a couple of “tadpoles” on the twigs. But WAIT!!!
------
One of the tadpoles seemed to have MANY legs from where I stood. No! On closer look, the tadpoles’ twigs were now OCCUPIED by small crawfish. I could see five of them, right off the bat.

Note: The heron came back in the afternoon! Photos tomorrow.

Crawfish, is that similar to a crayfish? Whatever it is they must be quite fascinating to watch. A great shot Michelle. #10220652

Are these the things they eat in New Orleans? :-) LOve the story! #10221899

Yes, they ARE! But maybe theirs are larger. These are so small! You'd have to work so hard to get a mouthful. Years ago I saw TWO crayfish in the pond and they were almost lobster sized. #10221945
