One of the finest "fractured" filter image I've seen on the site Steven! #9318924Steven W. Lepak March 29, 2011
Thanks for your kind comments John & Joannie. This was a low-light capture shot at high ISO. Although I liked the image, even after noise removal, I thought it was still a lemon (not post-able quality). . . so I made some lemonade in the digital darkroom. #9323371Karen Celella April 27, 2011
Congratulations on your wonderful finalist, Steven! #9372853Steven W. Lepak April 27, 2011
I shot this image at the Milwaukee Zoo with a Canon 70-200 f2.8L at 200mm wih my Canon 50D. This animal was sitting very still in a dark enclosure directly below a light shining down on him. The capture was made at f2.8 and high ISO resulting in a noisy image. I used NeatImage noise removal, darkened the background just a bit in PS with a mask layer, and applied the Fractalius filter. Because the beast's spots were the same color/darkness as the background, application of the Fractalius filter created the effect of making the beast look hollow with a framework of color - I thought the "Changling" title was well-suited to this look.
