Gorgeous, Stephen! Beautiful lighting, colors and composition. #9019615Jeff E Jensen November 07, 2010
Wow, Stephen, I got lost here for a few minutes. In my head, I'm sitting in the door of my tent, lacing up my boots, getting ready for another day of battling the fat cutthroat trout that are cruising this lake. It also reminds me that I did not spend nearly enough time camping/fishing this year.Tammy M. Anderson November 07, 2010
This is a beauty, Stephen. Comp. colors, and light are just perfect. Hope to see this again. Picture perfect! #9019661Stephen Shoff November 07, 2010
As I look through people's albums on BP, I'm always impressed by the caliber of photography and artistry I see. That makes your comments on mine even more appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.Jeff -- the only fishing I did this year was phishing for photos. But I could tell you a few stories about this lake. #9019771
Brenda K. Beatty November 07, 2010
I'd love a canoe out on this lake on a day like you had here. So peacefull #9019867Susan M. Reynolds November 07, 2010
Absolutely STUNNING photo, Stephen. I just LoVe it :) Wouldn't change a thing here...looks like it should be in an outdoors or travel magazine!Stephen Shoff November 07, 2010
Thank you, Susan. This is Gull Lake. I was around the corner of the lake (about 100 yards away and facing Mike's direction) while he was taking his picture.I sent you an BP-mail about about the Apple Hill suggestion. Don't know if you got it our not...lets take this one off-line. #9019924
Michael Kelly November 07, 2010
Absolutely a stunning shot Stephen. Everything about is is perfect and as someone already said I would not change a thing. You really captured the essence of the day and the lake with this one. I think we will be seeing this one again. #9019968
Dale Hardin November 08, 2010
Absolutely beautiful Stephen. Reminds me of the color you see in the fall on Stephen's pass in Washington. Lovely. #9021058Debbie E. Payne November 08, 2010
Stephen - Count me in with the "It's Perfect" crowd. I love the colors especially the different blues and greens and even a bit of cyan pulled in. Lovely, indeed. #9021562Carla Capra Anderson November 08, 2010
I'm in with the 'Perfect' crowd, Stephen.Stephen Shoff November 08, 2010
Thank you phellos. #9022041Anthony L. Mancuso November 08, 2010
Congrats on the excellent image and all of the well deserved accolades Stephen.. #9022144Aimee C. Eisaman November 09, 2010
Love the feel of this image...the sunlight coming thru the trees and the boat on the shore. The fall colors give it a cheery touch. While I think it's an awesome shot I'm just wondering about the straightness of it. The shoreline in the distance goes down hill. Isn't that crooked? I'm not being smart...really want to know if that is an issue or if going by the trees more in this instance is better. :~) #9023072Stephen Shoff November 09, 2010
That's one of questions I expected about this picture, Aimee. My answer, I don't know. I wasn't standing square to the shoreline. I was shooting in a 45-60 degee angle to it. That could cause a perspective shift. Other "reality checks" include the boat which is consistent and the ridgeline behind the lake. That ridge does run at a downhill angle as pictured. I tried a straightened version...the trees didn't look too askew, but the sun star shifted too far to the edge of the composition. #9023155Dale Hardin November 09, 2010
Aimee, you know I'm a straightness nut, and I of course checked it out because of the optical illusion caused by the shoreline. The key is the reflections in the water. Reflections are always straight and if you throw a grid on the image and move the image so that the reflections line up on the lines you'll see that it's right on. Well done Stephen. #9023233
Joan E. Hoffman November 09, 2010
Absolutely perfect Stephen! This really reminds me of a painting by Tom Thompson called "The Pool" but the lighting is even better #9023402Aimee C. Eisaman November 09, 2010
Okay I see how it works now....thanks for strightening me out! LOL #9023514Dale Hardin November 09, 2010
LOL. "straightening you out" Almost missed that one. Good line. #9023652Teresa H. Hunt November 09, 2010
Stephen this is really beautiful! Like Jeff, I could get lost in this picture. Though instead of fishing, I'd rather explore the woods. :)Congrats on the EP #9024094

LOL. I knew what you meant Stephen. And I've been caught many times by Phellos for missing it. #9026981Kathleen Nealon November 12, 2010
Stephen, this is a beautiful image. All of the components are working to create a scene I would love to enter and stay awhile. I do have one suggestion and that would be to neutralize the bark on the aspens. The golden glow is wonderful throughout but I would prefer it toned down on the trees. #9030791Stephen Shoff November 12, 2010
Kathe, I would too, but I couldn't find a way to accomplish it. I believe color is reflected from more trees to the right of the frame, so the color is probably real. The golden glow does contribute to the ambiance. #9030966Katarina Mansson December 06, 2010

No technical stuff from me. This is just a great image. My only question might be the whether the fish in the lake are cutthroat. Job Well Done. #9084373Graeme yew Chow December 06, 2010
Oustandig perpective, lights and colors, Stephen.Congrats ! #9084457Stephen Shoff December 06, 2010
I thank each of you for taking the time to respond to the POTD.Bill T and sorry, Jeff -- no, I don't think there are any cutthroat in this lake. It is a very heavily stocked lake, mostly with Rainbow trout and Alpers. There are some native trout (German or Brown?, I don't remember). The Lake is Gull Lake on the June Lake Loop, just off Hwy 395 in California between Mammoth Mountain and Mono Lake. #9084478
