Most excellent, clever, well-executed and a damn good job! I just wish I had thought of this. #80776

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Jimmy, June, Shirley, Suzie and Patricia. The use of the simplifier filter (www.fo2pix.com) really makes the lady standout from the rest of the photograph. The is an incredibly beautiful setting in West Virginia and it can be crowded and you can still get clear photos of the mill. Since it was raining this morning this lady and I had the site to ourselves. #80782

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

John, thanks for the ultimate compliment--I wish I had done it. #80793

Simply outstanding Murry!! Of course, I love this!

Shucks..you beat me on this idea, Murry! I started taking photos to create something similar ...now, I'd hate for you to think I was stealing your idea! Now I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks, Dolores and Kathleen. Come on Dolores, I'd never think that so post your photo when it's ready. I have a fence row shot almost like the one Heather posted a couple days ago (without the snow) that I had held for awhile. But I'll post it enventually :0) #81158

Murry, really great composition, colours an all. I would just love to see this in a version without that effect you've used on this one. #81879

Dolores Neilson May 26, 2019

Thank you for the understanding, Murry. I've been kicking around a similar idea for two weeks now and not finding the subject matter for best effect. Still working on it but didnt' want you to feel I was plagiarizing your ideas. I can't tell you how many times I've posted a shot and someone posted to tell me they had the same idea!! Great minds (I'd like to think I have one of them) think alike, eh? I didn't have the idea for a woman in an umbrella though and I think this is definitely a winner!! THe background lighting on your shot is awesome!!

I was inspired by a man named Brian Goldie. His buildings from Venice have a simplified appearance similar to yours...but he paints them by "hand' with color. If you can find his work, I think you would see a similarity. He doesn't use an artistic filter though...he uses Photoshop..so I've got some figuring out to do! My idea is to piggyback on his idea but add a human element...just like you just did! #82668

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Dolores, I'm sure what ever you come up with will be a show stopper!! #82972

Dear Murry, I just had a quick look at your Gallery, What a collection! Most of them are winning shots in my taste. "No Rain Delay" not only this months second prize winner, It also the winner of PEOPLE'S CHOICE! Look at the list of congrats!
Best Regards. #104787

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Jimmy, and I'm glad you visited and enjoyed my site. Your words are very kind and appreciated. I always look forward to seeing your posts here at BP. #104892

Peggy Wolff May 26, 2019

Jimmy, that is funny you say the peoples choice award because I have been bugging them at BP for a couple of months now that they should have a peoples choice award. I think it would be fun for everyone to have one vote each month for their favorite photo. Of course you couldn't vote for one of your own. LOL #104894

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

I too had suggested a Peoples Award to Jim. It may just be too much work for him and his staff especially now that there are catagories? But it would be fun to see how a PA would compare to the BP selections each month. #104895

Carolyn M. Fletcher level-classic May 26, 2019

This should have been Grand Prize..I also think we should have people's choice, 2 of them..one from among the finalists and one from stuff that didn't make finals but should have!
I think my comment mail is back on..I hope so, anyway. #104897

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Glad you're back on-line, Carolyn. And I definetly want you as a judge :0) #104899

Peggy Wolff May 26, 2019

LOL Murry, your too funny! Carolyn I love the idea of having two catagorys because each month I have been here one of my favorite photos has not made it to the finists. First the amazing snowboard shot, then of course your beautiful shots of Emilee from last month. I want to be a judge! LOL I have to say that this months choices in the people catagory have been the best I have seen. There could have been several first place winners this month, I don't know how they chose. #104921

Jimmy Wen May 26, 2019

What a coincident! Hi, Murry, Margret & Carolyn, A few weeks ago, I've e-mailed to Jim regarding a camera bag things which aworded for me for a first prize win a few months ago, I asked Jim to keep the bag & if porsable to set a prize to aword a Most participated Photographer who haven't make a final & prize winning. So, let's see how we goes. #105150

Carolyn M. Fletcher level-classic May 26, 2019

Well, darn it Jimmy! I was wanting one of those!! Did you run out of arms to carry them on?? LOL #105158

Jimmy Wen May 26, 2019

P.S. In here, Australia, We have a most importent aword for the portrat paintings every year called Archboard, There are two winners, one selected by those professors & the another one is People's choice. The People's choice aword been overwhelmingly welcomed by the society. This year, People's choise aworded to a Chinese painter who migrated to Australia for only 8 months but He spended more then 3 months for this winning portrait-He not even esttled His family here properly. #105163

Jimmy Wen May 26, 2019

Dear Carolyn, Firstly, I've got a nice camera bag already. Secondly, I really glad to be a part of this great society & laways whated to do something for it. Thirdly, Do you know how importent the contributions you've made to this society-We talking about the People's choice & participation. Any one else with me? #105169

Carolyn M. Fletcher level-classic May 26, 2019

My major contribution was finding you,Jimmy! I think there are a lot of us having the same idea here lately. The people's choice is a good idea. Now we need to convince Jim! He's the one who can do it. #105183

Jimmy Wen May 26, 2019

Let Jim worked out how to make it hapen & with out too much work for him & his staff. #105243

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

I've e-mailed Jim and asked to read these comments. #105244

Cheryl Meisel May 26, 2019

BIG FAT CONGRATS! It think this has to be a record for comments lol. Well I for one have loved this shot the moment my eyes set up on it. I loved EVERYTHING about it. It's a GREAT SHOT with a great composition, and COLOR. Ummmmmmum deserves all it gets. Congrats Murry, way to go!!!! Cheryl #105267

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Cheryl. The reason I like this shot is that it's a new spin on a very common shot of this mill. When I go to a site I always take the same photo that everyone else does as a record shot and then I try to think what can I do that will be different. This opporunity just presented itself to me. #105324

Collin Clack May 26, 2019

Murry, I have just spent a very enjoyable time viewing the images in your gallery and have to say that your work is exceptional and inspirational. This image stands out though and is absolutely one of the best images I have ever seen. To me it tells the story of all photographers out there. The perserverance it gets to capture that fleeting moment.

P.S. thanks for your comments on my image. #105869

Cheryl Meisel May 26, 2019

I have to second that Collin about the photographers. They are something else and sure would do this. LOL They never fail to amaze me.
Murry well YOU DID IT, with quite a FLARE. It's different and just a pic one would want to hang on their wall. Again, great job Murry!!!! It doesn't get any better then this!!! But we are all still going to look laughingggggg. Cherylm #105876

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Collin and Cheryl again. Also photography is something you can enjoy your entire life--I sure have. #105979

As I think some one said before "I wish I had of done it" It's an image that I would strive for... I would never say its the perfect image in all respects but it has to come so close it would be hard not to call it that. Perfect! Adam #106292

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thank you, Michael, Cathy and Adam. I've always liked this photo but to be honest I never imagined that so many others would. I am in the early stages of restoring 50 years worth of slides to CDs and when I saw this one again an applied the simplifier filter I thought I'd post it just for fun. Glad you liked it :0) #106396

I can't talk for long because I have a gazillion critiques to do. But I did want to say thanks for the suggestion about the People's Choice award. I really like the idea of a yearly Shoot Out! of some sort. I will take both ideas into consideration.

Again, thanks for the active participation and support. Congratulations again, Murry - this was one of my favorite shots. #106839

Damian P. Gadal May 26, 2019

WOW - congrats on two things Murry!

One for tearing Jim away from his busy schedule (I'm sure he needs a break from time to time) and 2nd on this outstanding image!

Glad you didn't set the mill on fire to catch a different shot then everyone else too!!!! #106846

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Jim and Damian.

Jim, I really appreciate you taking time from your busy schedule to consider the People's Choice Award possibilty and thanks for your kudos on my photo. Please let me know if I can be of any help?

Damian, I know you were kidding as I do constantly but just the thought of a fire at this beautiful mill makes me shutter. Vandals set fire to one of the gorgeous covered bridges recently in Winterset, Iowa and it was a total loss. And this in a town where John Wayne was born. I won't go quite that far for a unique shot :0) #106851

Damian P. Gadal May 26, 2019

Yes - I was kidding! Don't want to give anyone and ideas either... :-) #106855

Beautiful shot Murry - when were you in my neck of the woods? This is just a couple hours south of me. I don't know how I managed to miss this one when you posted it but I'm glad I got a copy in the new newsletter. Congrats! #108543

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Gary. The original of this was shot on Kodacolor back in 1996 if I remember correctly. Pat and I really enjoyed our time in WV. At the time I was disappointed that it was rainy when we got to the mill but after seeing the photo I was very pleased :0) #108597

Hi there,

I just posted my first pic today and, because I was seeing your comments on my friend's susana matos pic, I went to see your own pics. and this one, though taken some years ago now, for what I read, stroke me as so beautiful, tat I couldn's stop myself from sending you a "Hi there, this picture of yours is REALLY astonishing!".
take care,

Thanks, Gaby. Welcome to BetterPhoto and good luck with photos. #108766

I think the rainy day really adds to the shot, and I love how you finished it in Photoshop. I notice that the mill race wasn't running - I haven't been able to catch it running yet either, despite living so close. With all the rain we've been having I'm sure it's been in service a lot lately, but of course the best time to photograph it is during the fall when you were there. #108798

Yes I think you have to decide between spring water or autumn colors. I've seen shots of this mill in all seasons and I think the best is fall and I like winter next best with all the snow. We hope to get back for another visit some day. #108836

Linda Phillips May 26, 2019

Murry, your photo reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting with a twist.
Excellent contrast. #110722

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Wow, what a nice thing to say, Linda. I wish I had Thomas' talent and $$$. #110724

Linda Phillips May 26, 2019

I could use some of Thomas' talent and money too. :-) #110747

Murry,
This is absolutely an incredible work of art!! Just stunning and I could easily see this in an elegant frame on the wall. If I ever come close to something this beautiful I will be thrilled.
Congratulations!
Most Sincerely,

Hi Murry, the weather today (wet) has me looking at rain shots and found this one.. what a truly great picture!! So beautiful, I just love the colours and composition. Looks like a great place to visit -- did you pay that tourist to wear a bright red raincoat? :o) Regards, Susie #422987

Murry Grigsby March 14, 2004

Hey Susie it's a bit rainy here also. Thanks for comment! Since we were the only two out in the rain we traded places for each other :0) #423156

Jeez, Murry! I gotta get in line!
Anyway, I've seen more growth and change
in your work than...what....than
more growth and change in almost anybody
else's. Oh, poor sentence construction
at its most egregious. You've done
really well, Murry and you are a loyal
friend. This is a beautiful photo. It
gives me almost a sense that the woman
is photographing a diorama or museum
display, that she's not in the rain at
all...does that make sense?

Thanks Art! Looks like a C+ on the grammer :0) As I look at other shots of the Glade Creek Mill I realize how lucky I was to be there in bad weather for this shot to work so well. #904066
