Hey Joe this is a really good shot! I love the way that the fire is lighting the pic! My sister is a firefighter and has been begging me to take some shots of her (or maybe I have been begging her) either way. Could you give me some tips on how you accomplished this?? Any advice would be greatly apprieciated! :o) Thanks!! #268013Terry L. Ellis June 23, 2005
This is a fabulous enviromental portrait, Joe! Love the title, too! Excellent job! #1513152Joe Jarosz June 24, 2005
Thank you very much Terry and Melissa!I put a piece of white seamless paper up on the wall, and then had a strobe lighting the paper with a red gel on it. I had another strobe with an orange gel to my left (picture right). That picture is also posted online so you can see what it originally looked like. I got the idea to add the fire in the background which I did in photoshop and added the fire as a layer, then adjusted the levels to get the final picture.
I'm really happy with how it came out.
Thanks, Joe

Thats what I was wondering, I thought that you might have used gels. I saw this done somewhere else where they used them and it created this same cool effect! I like the fire it looked so real I was wondering if you had real fire! :o) Neat shot Joe! Thanks for the explaination! I am so excited to shoot my sis! :o) #1515576Joe Jarosz June 24, 2005
Don't shoot her! take pictures of her!! :)The fire wasn't real, but maybe I shouldn't have given away my secret! The color gels I got at a local photo supply house, they were pretty cheap. I found I had to double up on them to get a darker color that I wanted. Glad you like the picture. Have fun taking pics of your sister.

Thanks Shari..Getting the fireman to cooperate was quite a task..of course, I have to admit that the fireman in the picture is me :) #1673993Shari Travison August 04, 2005
Well then, I hope the fireman cooperated with you. Aren't some model's temperamental? ;)Now that I know more, you've got a great expression. I also think your comp is very artistic/interesting. #1676590
