~Windflowers~
When the windflowers begin popping up in your garden, you know it's Spring in Texas. Members of the anemone family, they're here such a brief while but always kind of give a "lift to the spirit" by being one of the first TX wildflowers to set the stage for our annual mass of springtime blooms.

We are beginning to see a few blooms down on the border but we still have way too much violence a stones throw away in Mexico. Living in a war zone is a bit different. #10033380Debbie Bray March 11, 2012

Wow, what a beautiful pair these two are, Val! Gorgeous colors, comp, clarity and BG! A superb floral!! #10033867Rona L. Schwarz March 12, 2012
These are lovely, Val! Have never heard of or seen them before but they look so delicate and dainty. Are they small? And what a terrific composition with the two of them overlapping like this against a black background. Love the details. I always think of Lady Bird when I hear about TX wildflowers - springtime in TX must be such a special time! #10035580Val Feldman March 13, 2012
Springtime in TX can indeed be spectacular, Rona, thanks to a large part to Lady Bird Johnson's efforts and her ongoing legacy. We were lucky in the first 3 months of 2012 where sufficient rain fell to counteract our drought conditions enough to give the beauties a jump start. Windflowers are small - less than an inch, grow from tiny tubers and pop up annually in early spring. Love to see them - makes me know the bluebonnets and other wildflowers are just around the corner! Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. Much appreciated! #10035809

How wonderful to see another member of the pretty anemone family, Val! I recognize the center. Anemone grow wild all through the Rockies and we have some in our front and back yard as well. The lady of the woods who lived at our house before me said she used to gather seeds in the Rockies and spread them in the yard here to see what would grow. I'm so glad she did this and now I do the same. This month I'll wander in the yard spinning and skipping around in slow motion circles to let my anticipated seeds blow around! HA! Now there is a picture! (Do you think wearing chiffon would be overkill?)Thanks for sharing from your part of the planet! :D
