Thanks so much, Usman! It was an amazing event to see in person, for sure. I did virtually no editing to this photo (save for some contrast adjustments), which goes to show the natural beauty that is Iceland.Furthermore, despite the 30-sec exposure, there are virtually no star trails. In Seattle, where I live, you can only take an 8-sec exposure before you get trails. However, because Iceland is so close to the Arctic Circle, and therefore True North, you can get away with 30-sec exposures with minimal star trails -- something I had not anticipated but turned out to be a happy coincidence.
Whether I win or not, I hope this inspires people to visit Iceland, see the Northern Lights in all their beauty, and take in the wonder that is Mother Nature. #10933221
