Did a little light painting last night with a couple of good friends. Too much fun. Here's a couple of my favorites. You can see the rest of them on my blog:

Jeff, you are just having too much fun. These are wonderful images. My favorites are Burning posts image and the last on on your blog.

Need some info on the Burning posts. How did you get all the sparklers to light at the same time? Or did you take multiple shots, or just one long exposure and move about? #9521025

Jeff E Jensen July 10, 2011

Thanks Dale! We can do some of this when you are out this way. Does your camera have a bulb setting?

The Burning Posts shot was taken in a single, 5 1/2 minute shot. The burning is from fireworks that you nail down to a board and they spin when you light them. Because of the long exposure, we simply lit one, then walked to the next one and lit it. Again, because of the amount of ambient light (notice the moon behind the clouds) as long as you keep moving, you don't show up in the shot. #9521162

Jeff, These are amazing!! I love them all!! So much color and the light is awesome in all of them!! #9521185

Jeff Jeff I love your creativty. It must be so much fun to have friends that have the same interest and hobby as yourself. SO jealous.....LOL

theses are all amazing the ones on your blog as well. I don't see anything that needs changing you have some winners in this group.

when you are doing this do you wear old cloths I am sure you must get a few burn holes #9522125

Jeff E Jensen July 11, 2011

Thanks, ladies!

Rita - it is nice to have good friends that enjoy doing this kind of stuff. And yes, old clothes and shoes are a must. In addition to the burning stuff, there are other things that get messy. This is at the Great Salt Lake. The mud and dirt is pretty nasty from the salt (reminds me that I need to give my tripod a good cleaning). In addition, this spot is an old oil drilling rig. There are several places where there is still oil seeping out of the ground. It's thick, nasty stuff. #9522212

Jeff, I think these are amazing! I love the sky in the first post. just beautiful! #9522583

Debbie E. Payne July 12, 2011

Jeff -- again, I am in awe. Sparklers are against the law in Colorado Springs. I guess no one cares much when you are out on the salt flats. I like them all but the first one is definitely my favorite. This would be really fun to learn. #9525266

Jeff E Jensen July 12, 2011

Thanks ladies! These are a lot of fun to do and you can get some pretty cool results.

I'm torn between the first two as my favorites. I printed both of them this morning and they are pretty cool.

Debbie - next time you are out this way, I'd be more than happy to shoot some of these with you. #9525360

Well, Michael's internship in Chicago may be extended into the fall. After that who knows if he'll be in SLC/Ogden or Chicago. I'm kind of hoping for Chicago but either way I'll be happy. I'm only the parent, you know! #9525478

Wonderful shots Jeff! Love them all, but the first post is my favorite. I am jealous too as no fire works allowed here. #9525535

Jeff E Jensen July 12, 2011

Chicago's not a bad place to end up Debbie.

Thanks, Mike! They actually loosened up the fireworks laws around here this year. #9525598

Thanks, Tony! It is a pretty cool location. It would be a fun place to do a portrait session. It's not the most convenient,it is about a 2 hour drive from here. #9526030

Great photographers are not great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion.
