Tribute to the U.S.S. Arizona

This structure within the University of Arizona Student Union Memorial Center is an architectural tribute to the memory of the sailors of the U.S.S. Arizona, who lost their lives on December 7, 1941 in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The shapes, curves, and domes are designed to evoke features of the battleship. This is an upward view in the multi-story cylindrical drum, the central element of this tribute.
