Jillian, I knew you would get one with this group of images!!! Congratulations!!! #8970048Jillian Danielson October 15, 2010
There is really no easy way to do these edits. It's a mixture of 4 or 5 filters on NIK to get the coloring just right, then added the white border to give it more of a vintage effect. I know that is all kind of vague, but each of these vintage edits can easy take me up to 4-6 hour per photo to get it just right, partly because I'm a perfectionist. In any vintage/ 40s/50s/Pinup photography that I do, or anyone does, it is CRUCIAL to have models that can pull off the hair/makeup and clothing style. If the hair/makeup/clothing doesn't match the era authentically, then no matter how much you edit a photo, it can't be pulled off right. Plus, we have this wonderful ice cream parlour in Havasu called Scoops that is absolutely fabulous and reflects the era for background. They are so wonderful to us in letting us shoot there. Background is also so important. The lighting is natural window lighting. The models I use dress like the era all of the time, some are professional models, and professional hair/MUAs to complete these looks. Vintage/pinup photography is SO fun to do, and lets my creative hair down! :)
I wish I could be more help in the editing process, but its really difficult to describe step by step since there's SO many steps. #8970510

also, one more thing, that this treatment doesn't work on every pinup photo you try. I have tried this numourous times on different pinup photos, and they don't always work. It all depends on the photo itself too. Different locations sometimes don't provide the right background for this to work out. It's alot of trial and error :) #8970599Carol Eade October 15, 2010
This is just fantastic, Jillian, congrats! #8970945Nikki McDonald October 15, 2010
This will go on, Jillian -- it is superb. I only hope they realize you did not just plunk on a one step filter to achieve these effects. Congratulations on the finalist and good luck in the next round. #8971885Jane Holestine October 15, 2010
