Description

Taken with Tamron SP AF200-500mm. I had attended a wedding at this church about 15 years ago. Traveling this highway most of my life and never noticing this church sitting between two hills on highway 46 in Ca. just outside Paso Robles. I had taken many pictures of this church over the years but none to my satisfaction. This year (2009) Ash Wednesday, the gates were open. While my friends sat in the car I climbed this hill and finally captured this circa 1800 church. It was very satisfying that my persistence paid off. Merna Nobile

G'day *MERNA*!

No wonder this has received an EP, a Finalist and a 2nd Place award, it is such a lovely photograph.
I really like how the church itself stands out so well due to its high contrst whites and the great exposure you made of that.
Another thing that caught my eye was how the arches of the bell niches are echoed by the archway on the path.
The eye is led along that path up into the scene and along the way is regaled by the 'walking stick' shapes of pruned grape vines which make a strong contrast in shape to the smoother lines of the church.
The sky makes a good background and foil for the purity of the church and I can almost hear the bells ringing as they must have done for many years of Sundays.
