Exiting the Barrel

This is a shot to demonstrate the technique of panning. A slow shutter speed with a stable camera would produce motion blur on both the surfer and the wave. By tracking the surfer, he remains realtively sharp and yet youstill get motion blur on the moving water. It creates a different effect than the standard high shutter speed surfing photograph. The trick is that you can't see the surfer through the viewfinder while the mirror is up so there is some luck and skill required.
