This is lovely! If you have a minute, could you explain the technique? #9939

Thank you all for your comments. Kathleen, I take my infrared photos with a digital camera. The equipment includes a digital camera that is sensitive to infrared light (I use a Nikon Coolpix 800 for my infrared photos), and an infrared filter. This photo was taken using a Hoya R72 IR filter. A tripod is also a must as the exposures are usually long. Scenes involving water, a mix of vegetation and skys with clear areas and clouds often make for dramatic shots. If you search the web for "Infrared Photography" you will find many interesting sites on this subject.
I hope this information helps.

Congrats Guy. When I first saw this shot I thought it was a winter landscape then noticed that it was taken using infrared. Very good use of the technique. #10782

Congrats Guy on the contest, your one-of-a-kind IR's are such a joy to view. The thumbnail doesn't do this justice, it's now my favorite of your IR shots. The scene is so cozy, real appealing. #10811

WOW, I first thought it was a winter scene until I saw the leaves on the trees and the tall grass, then suspected it was an infrared shot, which you confirmed in your comments. Very impressive scenery with the infrared effect.

I have Canon Digital Rebel (which I love) and was wondering if there is any way to simulate this infrared effect with a camera that does not have infrared capabilities or by using some digital effects or filters?

Wayne, thank you for your comments.
I use and older Nikon CP800 with a Hoya R72 infrared filter for my digital photography, because the camera has such great sensitivity to infrared light.
You may be able to use this same filter on your Canon and get good results. You would have to try a filter and see if it works. Some digital cameras have additional filters inside which block infrared light.
If you want to go the route of a digital effects filter I know that there are some available. Fred Miranda has a PhotoShop action for sale that mimics the effect of an infrared photo. It is available at http://www.fredmiranda.com/shopping/DI

I have not tried this action, however I have used his noise reduction actions and his BW Pro Workflow plugin with good success.
I hope that this information helps. #789368
