While working in China, I took this photo of a young chinese girl looking out over the ocean at a street called the Bond in Shanghai, China

I love the fading in and fading out of the, well, I think what might be fog, in the background? Great job! How does one goe about getting a photo such as this? I mean what f/stop did you use? Did you focus on her and then move the camera to get the whole scene into the picture? Love the effect. #5469

Thank you for the kind words. My Pentax 67 was tripod mounted, with a 75mm lens.
That morning was very hazy, I used a red 25 filter to help cut through the haze a bit, while adding contrast to a non contrasty scene. The exposure was 1 second at f 5.6 This was as fast as I could shoot the scene with the red filter and the 100 asa plus x film. The lens being so wide already had plenty of depth at all apetures. The effect is in the scene. Besides what the red filter helped with and the 1 second shutter speed to blur the people in the bg. It was set up and shoot as usual.
beyond the technical, it was beautiful to see this seaside street so early in the morning, and to see how these people so different from myself started there day. There was tai-chi, a group of elders dancing to classical western music from an old phonograph. Life in Shanghai starts early..... #7849

I like how the wall winds through the image and disappears into the fog.
