Thanks for the comments Bernie! Actually you're right. I took this just after sunset. I used a tripod mounted Pentax 6x7 and F22 to get maximum D.O.F...but being in the rihgt place at the right time is what really counts! #3769Gregory M. Anzalone January 03, 2002
Mike,Easy to see how this got the Grand Prize win. Congratulations on such a fantastic image!

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I'm a local. I live in Auckland and have been taking photos of our beautiful landscape for the past 10 years. The Fuji Velvia really suits the New Zealand light. #4472Cheryl Meisel January 16, 2002

Fantastic! Congratulations and thanks for adding to my list of places I must visit!!! #9242Rick G. Vincent July 01, 2002
I know the dock(path) is real, but my first thouhgt was very similar to the previous. The dock looked surreal, pasted in. Even though I pretty much knew it wasn't. This is one of those amazing photos where strange things happen that are beyond our control..Very sharp, great color, well composed..a winner all around. #9247Toni A. Martin September 07, 2003

Superb image, Mike - I love the gorgeous colours, clarity, and the lovely reflection of the clouds in the Lake! Many congratulations to you on taking out the Grand Prize with it back in 2001! My husband Phil and I live in Australia, very close to Lake Macquarie (just south of Newcastle), but I was actually born in Tauranga, New Zealand! Now - as Damian Gadal commented above - Lake Tarawera is on our 'must-see' list, when we next get a chance to visit New Zealand! We have enjoyed browsing your gallery, Mike... So many wonderful images!! :) #949569
