Superb! #942Glenn Theal October 05, 2001
I'm sorry, Guy, but I'm shocked that this photo placed first in this competition.Although this is a lovely photo and it holds up very strongly in all areas, it simply does not even compare to the quality work that you typically submit. In fact, I'm stunned that several of your other photos that made it to the finals did not actually place first.
Please don't get me wrong, this is a publishable photo and I do like it. But, your other photos are simply better.
Cheers,
Glenn #1491

Nice looking winner Guy. Congratulations! The placement of the boats and their colors really add to this shot. #1552Lou Greenberg October 07, 2001
This is a very nice photo, but I cannot see what it is that places it as the winner. Sorry, Guy, but I have to agree with Glenn. #1621Guy D. Biechele October 08, 2001
Something that we all know, and can see from the comments thus far, is that photography and photograph judging are very subjective. I was very pleased that this photograph was selected. I find the colorful boats against the bleak December landscape uplifting (and I hope that others do as well). However, one of the great things about this site is that people feel free to discuss their opinions and views. +Guy #1656Tammy October 09, 2001
I have to agree with Guy. I think this photo is magnificent. Of all the contest photos, this one caught my eye. I absolutely love it. Tammy #1700Jill Garl October 10, 2001
I think this is an exceptional shot! I love the colors and the movement that the boats create. Congratulations Guy!Bhavesh Karnik October 24, 2001

Amazing colours and subject. well done and thankyou so much for your kind comment #4315763Joni Earley November 15, 2007
Wow! This pic sure generated some powerful opinions, huh? Before I read any of them, I was captured by the splashes of color in what looks like a cold and monotone scene. Very inspired, and, as you say, uplifing! And you're completely right about how subjective photography is, so the only thing one can do is shoot to please oneself. Hello Guy, I wish to see more images like this.. very simple, true to life, made crisp/sharp/clear.. with the beauty of 'eye popping colours to add to the cold gray day..Congrats to you on your First Place WINNER!! #8256921

Sorry, after reading what I wrote- I need to say this... to me, I wish that more judges would see the beauty in 'everyday natural photography' without so much computer manipulations!Cheers,
