Gate To Ottawa St. Past

Uploaded: July 25, 2009 12:45:13

Description

Shot during the 2nd Annual Scott Kelby Photowalk, this was a hand painted mural in an old courtyard with it's old iron gate open.
Keeping the comp tight and using a shallow DOF allowed me to almost feel as though you could step back in time through the gate and onto the original street of Hamilton's oldest textile and merchant district.

This is a great shot! Great framing, scenery, & love the blurred background of this fabulous painted mural with vivid colors!!!
Very interesting composition and I like the way you have divided the frame using this fabulous metal gate as your main subject and as a background the painted mural...great feeling of 3D effect!
By the way, how was the Photowalk this year?...I am so sorry I could not participate...but I was really busy...hope next time!

Thank you Eugenio, this was a very last minute shot... another photographer was shooting another element of it and I turned and looked through the open gate... I had to capture it!
The walk was really good, we had perfect weather and a good crowd. Smaller group met afterwards to have lunch but they're such nice people (from the Hamilton Flickr Group) that it was easy to sit and chat! We missed you there!

Thanks Teresa, it was a fun shot for me! I'm greatly encouraged by the thoughtful comment! #7781704

I see I am not the only one wanting to say AMAZING here...but really I do feel like I am standing right there.

You did a great job with your "Tight Comp" and the tones are super, too. You and your new camera have become ONE.

I love it when that happens. Someday I'd like to be able to say the same. I really need a good camera.

It's terrific to see your GREAT natural and hard earned TALENTS emerging Christine! Bravo!

Thank you Laura, you're such a sweetie! And hey, keep an eye out for bargains or slightly used newer DSLR's.... cause you can haggle and get one for a steal if you know where to look, as long as they have great warranties tied into the package! That's how I got my latest camera, and I love it! #7792243

Okay. I will. Thanks for the fresh advice...I hadn't thought of that! :)

GREAT IDEA! (Big smile here!) #7792250
