Congrats on the beautiful POTD. I have never been brave enough to walk that trail in the winter. My wife and I have done it a number of times in the summer (my in-laws live in Woodstock). Now I am inspired to take the risk (I am there in early January). #8603571Donna La Mattino Pagakis May 11, 2010

Thanks everyone for all of your wonderful support.Mark C.- The trick in getting a shot like this is timing your visit early in the snow season before the river is choked with snow and ice. The window of opportunity is not as long as one might think. The other option is shooting after a spring snow, which was the case for this image. The forest had been bare of snow for weeks, but a heavy wet snow transformed the scene back to winter. If you arrive in January, you may be disappointed in the falls which might not be discernable from all of the snow. But a beautiful hike none the less. A great winter hike with views is up Canon Mountain via the Kinsman Ridge trail. Spectacular in winter.
Regards, and again, thanks everyone for you generous feedback. #8604847
