Why do they cover bridges? Wooden bridges with exposed superstructures are vulnerable to rot. Covering and roofing them protects them from the weather, and so they last longer.

As a child I used to walk to school by way of an old covered bridge (that once spanned a portion of the Erie Canal--now a freeway). I thought it was there to keep us warm and dry. It was demolished, after which a footbridge was built with aluminum rails. The first winter, the school sent notes home telling the parents to warn their children about "LICKING THE BRIDGE!" Guess what happened? This is a gorgeous view, Doug. #9850283

Beautifully composed, I love how you take us right down the road, the way we can see trough the bridge to the other side. Gorgeous colors, a beautiful scene so well captured. Not many of these around anymore. A treat for us my friend.
