Through Norman Eyes Maiden Newton Church [Contest Semi Semi Finalists March 2004]
Uploaded: March 30, 2004 04:54:58
This Norman door, is now protected by an outer glass door. I liked how the glass was reflecting the tree in the church grounds. I have a similar shot reflecting a different angle which I may upload later. I shot this early February with the landscape still rather bleak!

great capture, What is a Norman door? #454650Susie Peek-Swint March 30, 2004
Thanks Colleen! The church was built after the Norman conquest in 1066. This door has survived for over 900 years and still quite well preserved. It has not been screened off inside the church and can be examined close up. It makes you think of all the history that has gone by since it was built! The door is still hanging on it's original hinges.. they must have built things to last in those days! Cheers to you, Susie #454674Murry Grigsby March 30, 2004

Thanks Wally! It was probably also a bleak period for poor old Harold! :( #454994Terry R. Hatfield March 30, 2004
Hi Susie! The Old Door Still Looks Great I Thought It Had A Mirror In It At First The Reflection You Caught Is Amazing! Nice Find! #455043Susie Peek-Swint March 30, 2004
Thanks Terry! At first I was rather disappointed that the door was protected by glass, until I started looking at it from different angles for reflections.. always a silver lining somewhere eh? Best to you, Susie #455054Debra Booth March 30, 2004

Terrific perspective and I love how you caught the texture in the wall and wood as well, Susie, it really adds to the aged feel of this image...knights on horseback could be riding by at any time to rescue fair maidens!! #455440Susie Peek-Swint March 31, 2004
Thanks so much Debra, Kathy, Darren, Pete, and Carol!Karen R. Rubeiz March 31, 2004
Hi Susie! This is so deceiving, it appears that you are inside looking out.#456488
Susie Peek-Swint March 31, 2004
Hi Karen, thanks for stopping by. You can certainly see it and touch it. It is protected on the outside from the elements but inside the church pews are right up against it. Here's the link to the church itself, which is in my gallery.. if you want to see it: http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/dynoGallDetail.php?photoID=288725Best to you, Susie #456576
