Odeon of Herodes Atticus [Greece Pictures]
Uploaded: October 11, 2011 22:16:38
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone theatre structure located on the south slope of the Acropolis of Athens. It was built in 161 AD by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. It was originally a steep-sloped amphitheater with a three-story stone front wall and a wooden roof, and was used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000.
Andrea Bocelli gave a concert at the Odeon of Herod Atticus, in September 2010, attended by George Papandreou, the prime minister of Greece and Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens, among others. All proceeds were donated to help cure cancer. ~ Wikipedia

Outstanding capture of this impressive place, Rey! The Odeon must've been an amazing way to spend an evening "back in the day". Of course, the fairly recent evening with Bocelli must have been fantastic in its own right.

Mary, one of the things that this vacation did not allow us was the opportunity to spend more time to linger and explore the place. So we only had probably 2-3 hours tops, to see all the attractions. It would have been exciting to experience the place in the evening and I'd think they do have some kind of "sound and light programs here," though I don't know for sure. It would have been a treat, huh? There was a free Roman play, though and I'll post some captures later. #9730808

"Everybody's talking at me.
I don't hear a word they're saying,
Only the echoes of my mind.
People stopping staring,
I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes."

What a remarkable theatre, Reynaldo! I wonder how well the sound travelled up to the back rows, it looks like a long way down to the stage! #9732961
