Always Look on the Bright Side

Always Look on the Bright Side
Here is another photograph in my ever growing series of Urban Landscapes.
This one was shot in B&W and given an 'Ansel Adams-like treatment' in Photoshop CS.
The photograph was made from the bridge over the Canals in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, taking full advantage of the low winter's afternoon sunlight.
The shot was hand held using the bridge railing as a prop.
Enjoy!

  G'day Dominick,

This was inspired by a photograph by Ansel Adams I saw on a web site. It was the one with tombstones in a graveyard with lighting very similar to this. As soon as I spotted just what the sunlight was doing to this scene I knew I had to give it the "treatment".

So glad it caught your discerning eye and imagination. Many thanks for your very supportive and encouraging comment mate.

Wow, love the lighting and the B&W makes this quite dramatic. Now I am going to have to go and google Ansel Adams :) Have a wonderful Day~

  G'day Tammy,

Thank you for the "double entry", for your very encouraging "Wow,..." and for some more names for me to look up.

When I first saw this scene with that photograph of Ansel's in mind, it was the contrast that atracted me. I then set about photographing and processing for the contrast. There were a few dud versions until I settled on this. I also like the "grain" in the image, making it look more like an authentic film B&W.
It did very well in an annual regional camera club competition which made me very happy.

  G'day Donna,

Surprisingly these buildings are not very popular with most of the fine folk of Port Macquarie but when I saw them in that afternoon light with clouds as a backdrop they looked wonderful to me.

Your very encouraging "...Beautiful work..." comment for this urban landscape is greatly appreciated.

A belated congrats on the win Dennis... love the deep deep contrast provided by the hard sidelight, and even the clouds are in rows to enhance the pattern in your composition!
