Hi Aaron, this is such a lovely photo and love the lighting!!!!! What more can I say - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Would you mind sharing how you got such good lighting? I am about to take some shots at a ballet studio and this is the lighting I'd love to achieve but am challenged as the studio only has a small window and fluorescent lights above.

Kind regards from West Australia
Nicole

Thank you to my rooting section on this one. There are always so many great photos on here, to have one of mine win is a great honor. Everytime I get one in the running, I look at all the entries and think my chances are pretty slim... lol I am very happy this one was chosen.

To Nicole

This was a fluke shot in a way. I was setting up for a couples first dance shot at a wedding. Doing my practice/light check shots for a dragged shutter shot of the bride/grooms dance, the little girl jumped out on the floor with the bride/maids. I was braced against the wall with no tripod. It was a pretty dim room so I was getting pretty good shots with anywhere from 1sec to 2sec exposures. Sometimes I will add a rear curtain flash to shots like this also. It can add a nice glow around the subjects. If you are doing a hand hold, it helps to have a stationary item in the frame. Like the chair in the background. The stationary item will be out of focus, but so much more in focus than the moving subjects, it will create the illusion of sharpness and give the movers/dancers a stable environment. A tripod is really the better plan, but not always possible shooting a wedding. Just be prepared to shoot a whole lot of junk, to get the one good shot. You are firing the shutter before your subjects even get where you want them to be. It is a guessing game. Hope this helps.
Here is the shot I was setting up for when the prima donna shot happened.
