Photography Question

N80 vs. N90s vs. F100

Switching to automatic focus camera from Nikon FM2 I am in a quandry as to which camera to purchase. I am a professional child portrait photographer. I photograph close-up and need to photograph quickly. I tried the F100 and found the red flash disconcerting, although it is fast. However, with the time it takes to make sure it takes time away from shooting the actual photo. I have also read the the camera is a piece of plastic junk inside the body. I tried the N90s and preferred the inner circle and outer bracket and spot/wide focusing. And, purchase a SB-28. I never tried the N80 which I believe is similar to the F100 but with pop-up flash. I do not need all the extra features, as I was happy with the FM-2 for 15 years, just have trouble focusing due to my vision changes, especially with progressive glasses. The diopter in the F100 is no special feature, Just want it to do the job, with simplicity. I don't usually use a flash but have been thinking of for fill-in for outdoors.

Thanks,

Linda

  Linda,

I don't know if it will help in your case, but there are diopter-correction lenses available which screw into the threads of your FM-2.

This might make it easier for you to focus manually, rather than spending big bucks for an auto-focus body.

Utter nonsense. None of these is "plastic junk." The F100 is a professional-build body of magnesium alloy, the F90s is also pro-build of aluminum and polycarbonate. Both have heavy-duty shutters rated for pro-use. The N80 is a consumer-level body, but it is also well built with rigid metal mirror box and strong polycarbonate.

  This is Linda again,

I tried the diopters, Beattie screens, and wear my prescription glasses. NOthing works due to the far sightedness in combination with astigmatism.
