Shooting pictures in the snow

Hi,
I have had my canon Powershot A10 for 3 years and never had a problem till now. Everytime I try to take a picture outside in the bright sunlight with the snow everything is yellowish or white. I have tried changing the white balance but I'm not sure if I am doing it right. I have enclosed a pic.
If anyone can help I sure would appreciate it it.
