Photography Question

Is there a possibility of a career for me?

I am very interested in photography. I have been messing around with photography since I was 16. Now 25 and a mother of one, with no education past High School. I would like to get some suggestions on some classes to take to further my knowledge of this subject. How much does education have to do with being able to be a successful photographer? I am most interested in landscapes and am sending along one for you to view.

  Hi Kari,
Barring being able to go to school for a journalism degree you'll most likely do as many of us have - learn on the fly and through home-based study. A couple of suggestions I might offer would be the courses on this site and/or NYI. (The New York Institute of Photography) I've tried both and feel that both are excellent resources with experienced, successful photographers who will help you along. To start, I'd recommend a course on the basics that covers the equipment to better understand it's function, terms, and use. That will serve as your foundation - then you can focus on developing your "eye" and creativity as a photographer. And shoot like crazy! There is no better teacher than experience. I feel that being digital really accelerates the learning curve because the feedback is instantaneous, and once you've made the initial investment there are really no costs associated with shooting to your heart's content. And lastly - look at other people's work. I can't begin to tell you how much I've learned by viewing the wonderful images that other members post here at BP!
