Photography Question

Christine E. Kesecker

flash problems or somthing else

I took a bunch of Pictures while on vacation. When I had them developed, I noticed that about 1/4 of the left side of the picture was blacked out. I then noticed that my speed of the flash was set on 800 and my film was 400. Could this be the problem or something else? All my non-flash pictures turned out beautiful!

Thanks

The problem is you were shooting at a shutter speed above the flash sync speed for your camera. Refer to your manual and find out what your sync speed is. When you shoot with flash you must be at or below this sync speed otherwise you will end up with only partially exposed images.
