These are studio lighting terms. Your key light is your main light (that which provides primary illumination). The fill light lightens the shadows. A typical lighting setup will have the key at a 45deg angle to the subject and the fill placed near the camera throwing light onto the shadow side of the face. In addition to these lights you can have kicker lights (usually set behind the subject and providing rim lighting, hair lights (aimed from above lighting the hair), and background lights (aimed at the background).
