How to use your light meter -digital vs. FILM Do I use my light meter the same way with my new digital camera vs. (my old canon SLR?) I'm switching my studio over to digital. When I set the settings the same on both cameras, the difference is awful! The digital picture looks dark and the colors are not the same. HELP! THANKS!

I'm no digital expert but just like with any film you use you probably need to calibrate your meter and metering techniques to whatever medium your using. Also bear in mind that digital is not as forgiving as negative film. It is much like shooting slide film in that it has a narrower latitude than negative film. Therefore your exposure must be more precise. Of course with digital you do have the option to preview to make sure your exposure is right.

Just come across this question. Do you use a handheld meter to check the exposure and set the exposure manually on both the cameras? Do you know if the two cameras are using the same metering system? Canon's old SLR mostly used center weighted metering. Is your digital camera using the same metering method? (most newer SLR and digital cameras allow user to choose matrix metering, center weighted metering, partial and spot metering. Another thought was that the film speed. Is the film speed of your old SLR the same ISO setting on your digital camera? Make sure the metering system, shutter speed, aperture and film speed/ISO settings are all the same and then do the compare again. Hope this helps.
