Although I do not have this particular model myself, I owned two other EOS systems with which I am very happy with. Basically, you can start taking pictures and have the camera control the exposure for you with the 'green zone' or the 'P' mode using the dial on the top left of the camera. The different between these two modes is that with 'P' mode, you can change the shutter or aperture value with the dial right behind the shutter release and the camera automatically compensates for it, or you can do under/over exposure with your camera. There should also be 'Av' mode for aperture priority, 'Tv' mode for shutter speed priority, 'DEP' for automatic depth of field, etc. You can ask specific feature of the camera here and I will try to answer it.
