Attention computer geeks... Yesterday, my computer decided not to recognize my printer. They have been getting along fine for the last couple of years..A box pops up that says "one of the USB devices has malfunctioned"..Is it referring to the printer itself, or the port it plugs into or what? There's only one plugin spot that the printer plug will fit into. It's bigger than the other USB ports. So what do I do now? Any suggestions will be appreciated including "toss the stupid thing out the nearest window"!

I'm sure you've tried un-plugging the printer port and plugging it back in. Sometimes this simple solution will solve a seemingly complex problem. (WARNING..Don't jiggle it around! Just pull it out, wait a few seconds, and push it back in.)

I did try that, but haven't yet tried to unplug it and restart the computer and plug it back in. I"m going to try that next.

Ok, actually it does fit in other USB ports, but I'm getting the same message on all of them. That doesn't make sense to me unless it's the printer itself that has gone batty on me. Any other suggestions? Should I uninstall and reinstall the printer software?

Ok, it's fixed. Had to reinstall the software and restart and it seems pretty much back to normal.

Glad you worked it out! I guess it's like they always say, "When all else fails, start over and RE-BOOT."
