opening CR2 raw files with Photoshop I got a Canon 60D and can't open the raw files(CR2) with Photoshop CS3. I have to open with the camera sofware and then transfer them. And it takes a while! Is there any other way? Any sugestions? I have a Panasonic and shoot raw and didn't think I would have any trouble with the Canon Still lots to learn!!

Hi Ana, the 60D is a very new camera and the Photoshop CS3 does not support the RAW files of this camera (the RAW file format changes with each new camera model). If you want to use Adobe Camera Raw to open the files you have to upgrade to CS5 or you download the free DNG Converter (you'll find it on the Adobe website) and batch convert your CR2 files to DNG. CS3 (and older versions of Photoshop) can read DNG. The DNG format is a RAW file format, so you'll loose nothing. Greetigs from Germany Rainer

Hi Ranier, Thank you!! Y don't know much about Raw and assume they were all the same.I mean, that there was only one Raw.So I got a big surprise when I couldn't open it. Thank you very much for your explanation Cheers from Sydney Annie

If you know any students or faculty at a local college, you might be able to get them to buy you PS CS5 real cheap.

Hi Ana, DNG Converter I always keep a DNG converter on my MACs as I run into this often when I get a new camera. I would love to see Canon, Nikon, Hassleblad & other manufacturers use DNG as a standard format but I dont count on this ever happening... CS5 has some very nice advantages such as an improved clone tool, smart fill & lots of other things but if you do - be prepared to add more RAM as CS5 needs more processing oomph :) Cheers, Carlton

Hi Annie, Another affordable alternative is to get Adobe Elements 8. It is compatible with your camera's RAW format and costs about $100. See http://www.buytec.com.au/detail.php?Ref=222 Cheers! Peter
