What resolution? Hi all, Do you change the resolution of your images when you upload them on the net especially here on BP? The quality of the images greatly reduces when I follow the guidlines for the contest and make the file small. Some of images uploaded here have excellent clarity and sharpness, I just wonder if the size has been reduced at all? A pro told me that she always reduce her file size to 72ppi and 800ppi on the longer side to upload on her website.... you know to minimize the chance of her image being stolen and reuse because the image size is small and not good enough to enlarge. So I want to ask you what do you do? Do you change your file size to upload on internet and if yes, then how much?

I do the same as that Pro (72ppi, and 800 as the longest dimension.) At that point, I optimize for the highest quality for those sizes, when saving to jpg. From all things I've read, 72ppi is the biggest number that can be viewed on the Internet, so anything higher is a waste.

Hi, I don't reduce the sizes of my photos when I upload because I don't think it's nessacary with BP's right-click protected.

Using Firefox - I just right-clicked on a random photo. A message came up saying that the photo was copyrighted and could not be copied. I clicked on OKAY, and when the next dialog box appear, I selected "SAVE as...". At that juncture, I just opted out of the box. Point is - that nothing is totally protected. I usually reduce my dimensions to 800 at the longest, because the two other sites I use require that. I reduce the resolution for the reasons given above.

I checked out what Kathy said about Firefox and she is correct. I can save an image from the galleries and it is saved just as it was uploaded. I don't know if there is a way, but something needs to be put in place to prevent this. I've never tried to load a full size image so I don't know how BP handles the image. I would think it is reduced in size automatically but something still needs to be done to protect our images even if they are small.

As a Firefox user, I can download just about any photo here in a size large enough to make a decent 4 x 6 print. I also have an inexpensive "capture" program that lets me get specific items on a Web page and do the same (which I use only for legitimate purposes as a journalist). Bottom line? It's hard to protect against someone intent on thievery. If this is a concern, you might consider using a watermark or pasting your name directly on the photo to at least help render it undesirable.

I now religiously reduce my file sizes before uploading and put watermark sign. But everytime I bite my teeth to see the reduced image quality as well. It is just not that sharp and clear....but I guess and I hope that the very same reason disappoints someone to steal my image. So what my image is turned down or not make it in the finalists, right?

I always reduce the size of my images as well as the resolution. It makes for an easier upload as well as watermark my images. However, this will only deter the some people, but not all. Who ever may take an image will have to work for it.
