A girl that I have kind of formed a friendship with from my framing shop has asked me to do her family photos. She has been desperately trying to find someone to do her photos that she can afford to no avail. She asked me. Ahh. I photograph 'stuff'. I have done a few portaits with my best friend and my cousins, but they are all such naturals at posing themselves. That is the hardest part. I can find good light and good backgrounds, and have already picked a couple of locations. They are wanting something more artistic, a vintage feel. They will be wearing 40's styles clothes. 5 adults and 3 children. When it comes to posing, I panic. I think it should be as natural as possible, but some people just don't do anything naturally lol. A little light hearted is good as well. I am currently doing tons of searches looking for portraits that fit what I am doing to try to get some ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Or even sending me to some good web sites or someone's gallery I could take some ideas from. I can only hope my cheap price lowers their expectations ;) You can go to my web site to see the photos of my cousins, and I will attatch a couple, so you will have a better idea of where I am photographically. I will be using my Canon 20D because my 5D is in the shop. All I have for lighting is my removeable flash with a diffuser on it. Thanks ahead of time for any and all replies! Jessica www.PhotoJKC.com

The main problem isn't the posing, it's your panicking. Most of posing is feeling at ease and not trying too hard. And that includes trying to smile too much. One person is already half way a friend, so you're half way there. Find a good location. If everybody's having fun taking pictures, they'll have fun viewing what was taken. All long as it's not hot, keep taking pictures. Start when everybody's getting together. Shoot when you changing locations. Let the expressions come as they come.
