monitor problem I have a Sony S204 lcd monitor, purchased 10/2005. Today, I started seeing a shimmering on the left center 6" of the screen. The shimmering quickly got worse, then began a rapid scrolling. This affects only the 6" or so of the screen immediately to the left of center. The rest of the screen is OK. If I turn the monitor off for a while, then turn it back on, it is OK for a short period. Is the monitor shot? Repairable? Could this be a problem on the computer video card? John

I don't know a lot about the technical aspects of monitors but in general with electronics you have to consider the cost vs. benefit of repairs. Since this monitor is 3 1/2 years old and electronics advance so rapidly, unless you paid over $500 for it, I would strongly consider buying a new one before sinking any money into it, since the cost of repairs could easily surpass your monitors current value. I had a 19" NEC CRT monitor that quit working after 3 years of use. Some electonics just dont have a long life. I have seen some ads from CompUSA for a 24" LCD monitor for $199. Dont know any of the specs for it but it seems reasonably priced monitors are available... Good Luck John, Carlton

Thanks Anthony & Carlton, I paid over $700 for the monitor, so I may inquire about repairs. However, I purchased a new 21" widescreen monitor for less than $250, so it looks like prices have fallen on LCDs. I immediately calibrated the new monitor which corrected a green color cast perfectly. I'll have to get used to the 16:9 ratio, but I like it. John
