How to shoot subjects in front of Christmas tree I don't have and special lights. Just the flash on my camera. I'm using a Canon Rebel XTi. I need to take a photo of 3 people in front of a lit up christmas tree in the dark. How do I get light on their faces without washing out the Christmas tree lights with the onboard flash?

Hi Leann, shoot 'm from tripod (in RAW!) at ISO 200 with -1,5 stop exposure compensation to avoid overexposure of faces due to the darkness around, and use a slow shutter speed – bracket at e.g. 1/15th, 1/10th, 1/5th – to record the Xmas tree lights. Of course the onboard flash has drawbacks: harsh light and deep black shadows. Have fun!
