Calibrating monitor

Sometimes when I have to dodge a background in ps it looks just fine on my computer monitor at home(flat screen plasma) but when I go to work and look on a regular screen or get them printed up I've missed spots all over the place! Do you have any idea how to callibrate(I think that's the word) my monitor without having to buy another one? Thanks so much!

Traci, I'm not sure the problem is an uncalibrated monitor. However, I highly recommend you calibrate for other reasons. I too was having difficulty with images that looked fine on my monitor, but came back from my print lab too dark. I now use the Colorvision Spyder 2 monitor calibration system and the monitor pretty well matchs what I have printed.

For dodging (or other localized adjustments) I recommend you use a layer and enlarge on-screen to 100% or more.

John
