Photo Printers Hi-I am looking for a photo printer. Does anyone know a good printer that will print directly from my computer and not just from my camera and prints 8 X 10. I have many edited photos that are saved to my computer that I would like to print. I'm not looking to print right from my camera. Thanks for any suggestions! :)

Lisa, there is a world of photo printers out there - but you need to tell us more, like what is your budget? How often will you be making prints? The Kodak 1400 dye sub printer is capable of up to 8x12 prints, that look like real photos, and the ink ribbons don't dry out if you don't make any prints for a month or more at a time. It's about $500, while less costly inkjet printers from Epson, Canon and H-P can produce gorgeous prints as well, their inks can dry if not used regularly. So these are more flexible (in terms of what kinds of paper you can use) but require a bit more TLC. On the other hand, their initial cost is generally lower, but that depends on the model you select.

First, there are very few printers available that will actually print 8x10. The cheapest and best printer I can think of is the discontinued Epson 1280. They can still be purchased as a refurbished unit directly from Epson for about $300. I own and use 4 of these in my studio. You can buy more modern, state-of-the-art printers, but not for this price. Epson makes 8x10 paper, so you don't have to cut down 8.5x11, and be wasteful, and the 1280 has the capability to print borderless. Go to Epson's site, and you can see first hand the printers that will accept 8x10. Maybe more printers today will accept 8x10, but just a few short years ago, it was a rarity. Michael H. Cothran
