Portraits

I have to take portraits at the company Christmas party. I have a shoe mount flash with bounce, a small soft box from Photoflex to fit on the flash. no other lighting. I have done some experimenting but haven't had much luck with the proper exposure. should I go with the program mode or aperture priority at about 8? I have a 35-70 and a 100-200 4.5 constant. I think I'll use the 100-200 from about 15 ft, flash on hi zoomed out to 85mm with the soft box attached and aperture pri at 8 flash sinc is 90 I have some fuji nph 400 with tree in back ground. will the f8 and shutter at 90 work ?
they know I'm no pro but I'd like to not screw it up too bad.
