Got the lens. Now which model Maxxum (Dynax)? The 420-800 lens has a fixed aperture (varies only with the focal length). It is virtually the same as a refracting telescope with a T-mount adapter to fit the Maxxum mount. There is no electronic communication between the lens and the camera. Maxxum/Dynax cameras require this communication. Some Maxxums have a custom function to allow use with such lenses (and telescopes). Other Maxxum cameras will not release the shutter when such a lens is mounted and there is no override.

i own minolta equiptment and always love to know the ins and outs of my gear.
all dynax or maxxum cameras have a button on the front of the camera that says mf or af.though some are manual focus only.
