If you're shooting in Auto mode, the camera will select faster shutter speeds when you have more light available. If you want to stick with automatic modes, you can try using the Sports mode. It will increase the ISO and try to use faster shutter speeds, but again, it will be limited if you don't have enough light available.

I think your camera has Av and Tv modes, I'm not sure if it has Manual mode. Av mode is Aperture Priority mode, where you select the aperture (also called f-stop) and the camera will select the proper shutter speed. Tv mode is Shutter Priority mode, where you select a shutter speed and the camera will select the proper f-stop.

You should check your camera manual to see which buttons on the camera actually change the settings when shooting in these modes.

Thank you I will have to read the manual, but you almost have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to understand it. This digital is all new to me. The camera does have a manual mode.
Thanks again
