Minolta XGM film won't advance, mirror locked Here's another one for you guys. I just got another XGM Minolta body from eBay as is, I knew it before and got alot of other neat things with it, including a 280PX flash unit, well worth the price of the auction. But the camera is malfunctioning. The shutter will not release, the film advance is jammed and the mirror will not stay down of its own accord. Now here is what the camera does. There is power. There is a lever inside the lens mounting ring and moved to the right (facing the camera) I can get the mirror to lower and light can be metered. But when I release this lever, the mirror snaps right back up. I compared to my own XGM body and near as I can tell by the position of the shutter curtain, the camera is in the position of having just made an exposure and the film would need to be advanced to reset the shutter and the mirror, but the lever for advancing film won't move and I know better than to force it. That being said, I know where I am. How do I get to an operating camera. I will continue to experiment. Has anyone run into this problem and have a solution other than taking it to a shop which I can't afford right now. Thanks, guys. Christopher Walrath

Most likely a dead capacitor, the XG-M uses three of them. You could also have a broken IC cold solder connection and/or dirty resistors.
