Color Negs Developed in Black and White Darkroom I have access to b/w dark room. I have some very interesting photos shot in color that I would like to try to develop as black and white. They have great contrast and texture. I have purchased special paper, but when I run my test strip, even with F stop at 16 and #3filter, I still get black, nothing, for almost no seconds... what am I doing wrong?

If the special paper you are using is Panalure, it is a panchromatic paper. To make better prints from your color negatives the paper responds to the entire visible spectrum. If you are using a safelight, the paper is responding to that as well. Panalure needs to be handeled in total darkness, just like color paper.

I just started working in the black and white darkroom at my university, and we make b&w prints from color negs quite frequently. Just use REGULAR b&w paper and processing, and experiment until you get it right - it'll work. You'll need to give it a pretty long exposure (for proof sheets I use like 45 seconds at f/8, for Kodak glossy paper). You'll also need to increase the contrast more than you would for regular black and white; again, for proof sheets, we use a 3.5 filter, and depending on the neg you might need even more contrast. But its not too difficult once you get the hang of it. Good luck!
